Locking It Down

2/8/10

So…after much thought over my Facebook profile, I’ve decided to go ahead and lock some of it down. I’ve made a lot of changes today regarding privacy towards my friends. There was something about my sister or other family members leaving things on my Wall where I don’t want others to see it. Or even close friends leaving me comments or people posting otherwise unflattering photos of me where everyone else can see them.

I almost wish there was a way where I could group people. For instance, only family can see what other family members post. My gaming friends can only see what my other gaming friends post. My musician friends can only see and interact with what other musician friends post. I think that that would make me feel a lot better about using Facebook.

But more and more lately, I sort of feel like, everything about my life is just sitting there for anyone on my friends list to view.

And I know, why even have a Facebook if I am worried about this shit? Well I use it to keep contact with my friends and it works really great.

But frankly the privacy is just not where I need it to be, or rather its not where I feel comfortable with it anymore. Do I really want my boss or anyone else I work with or my sister seeing pictures of me drunk getting posted all over the internet? No I don’t.

I just miss the days when Facebook was EXTREMELY private. No one could see anything unless you specifically allowed them too. Then it got all popular and shit and they opened it right up. I find it so creepy that I can literally type almost anyone on my friends lists names into Google and their personal Facebook profile comes up. Not to mention their photos, videos, all those unflattering and inappropriate Wall comments. Its just too much for me.

So instead of just outright deleting the whole profile, its getting locked down and staying that way. I only get on there to chat and play Farmville anyway.
